Sipa and Bean Bag Fun
In the middle of winter and the temperature outside is 10 degrees Farenheit, kids can be a little restless and bored. I have searched for the better ways to fill up their time with indoor fun and activities. Today, we made bean bags and played Bean Bag Toss much like “Sipa” in the Philippines. For those that are unfamiliar with sipa, it’s literal translation means kick. And it’s made up of a washer with a small plastic or yarn pompom attached to it. The object of the game is to kick the Sipa and gain as much points from not letting the toy hit the ground. The fun of the game is when the professional kicker does exhibitions and is still counting even to a hundred. My brother used to play this game a lot when we were kids, I really never got into it because it can be very challenging with such a small toy that is supposed to hit your heels or ankles all the time.
My version for my preschoolers is the bean bag. I got scrap pieces of fabric and cut a couple of small squares and sewed it together. The kids helped me fill it up with uncooked rice and I sewed the opening shut. Since I have yet to master Sipa with my ankles, I just taught the kids to use their palms. What a blast! I realize that I have forgotten most of the simple games we used to play in the Philippines. When I looked Sipa up on a search engine, it is now under the category of folk games of the Philippines. This is rather odd thinking this game was so popular and cheap for young kids back in my days.
Thirty is my maximum number of launches from our latest bean bag toss. I know, it’s a little pathetic. My dear husband though went up to 50. My son was in the 5’s and my daughter, she just loves to smell the bean bag and rub it on her cheeks. That the newest report from the Sipa/Bean Bag Toss Olympic Training in our home.
When the adrenaline rush was over and our muscles were stretched beyond our limits, the kids started showing signs of nap, I stuck the bean bags in the microwave (20-45 seconds). I tucked the kids to their places and slipped the warm bean bags under their necks and they let out a gratifying sigh.

Hello kotsengkuba,
free arthemia theme ang nakuha ko. maganda nga ang layout. kung bibilhin ko yung premium mas maganda pa ang features. Pero di naman ako professional blogger, forever newbie lang ako kaya, tama na lang sa libre libre. Yung are we really this poor post mo ay part of Izea’s advertiser fair or something. Ipinagmura nila yung mga Kapepe para dumami ang kanilang kliyente. I’m sure you know about this. Akala ko rin super na sa pambabarat ang KPP pero nakabasa ako ng newsletter nila…Ah yon pala. Makapag-comment rin sa post mo. Thanks. Sali ka sa sipa? Naglalaro ka ba noon sa elementary?

pwede pala yun? i have a “dou-dou,” which is an old beanbag bear which i still have in my room. sige, i’ll try zapping it at the microwave too! looking forward to a toasty sleep tonight!
Hi BrotherUtoy,
If your beanbag has rice as filler, pwedeng i microwave iyon, kaya lang wag masyadong matagal at wag mong babasaain, baka kanin na ang labasan nito. hehehe. Kumusta kapatid?
