Frugal Tip#5: Following Frugal Tweets

1 December 2008 4 Comments

There are a lot of social networking, communities, forums and communication tools on the internet that you can literally add one a day for the whole year. My goal for 2009 is to become a member of all the social networking available and for free just for the fun of it. And in any new year’s resolution, the tendency for most of us is to start now or else we will forget.

Today, I was curious about Twitter. I typed it in the search box of Google and on the first line of page one is the heading Twitter and a question: What are you doing? That is the question of the millenium. What are we doing, and I’d like to be updated with what you are doing. The concept of Twitter is baffling to me until I signed up. I added some friends from my email list and went through the different Tweets  and recount of they did over the weekend and what they ate for breakfast yesterday. If anything else, Twitter can solve my 7 year crisis of finding an idea what to cook for dinner come 4:45 pm. I would just open and find people that Tweet about food and voila, I’m in for the homestretch baby!

If only they have an automated service to produce my whole dinner just by turning on the computer, that would be wonderful. As much as that sounded sci-fi, I wouldn’t be surprised that in a few years it is possible at some level. Remember the 80’s when we watched Bond Movies and thought, his watch could not have fitted all the transistors, nuts and bolts with a built in antenna for his watch phone call. Then, the cellphone came out and the progression of technology raced with the innovative and creative ways to slim-down and reduce the size of the cellphone. So, there. I would not be surprised if in a few years you can order Pizza via Twitter. Or can you? Unless I haven’t read the technology updates last night.

Anyway, let’s get back to Twittering today. There is a controversy about the Mumbai attacks being updated in real time in Twitter. Twitter has become the microblogger of our day. Addicted bloggers who want to post some form of updates but could not get to a keyboard or are unable to fit in their lunch with the recent Britney Spears news, could now Tweet and post about their day without any difficulty. If you are on the go, Tweet via cell phone. It is amazing how fast the integration of technology can happen in an instant.

Anywho, who are the Twitter-rers I follow? Let me share with you the 7 Twitter-rers I follow:

  1. The Debt Diva — you can also watch her episodes on YouTube’s TheDebtDiva . Her latest video on making gift baskets under 15 bucks. I love her southern accent too.
  2. Frugal Dad–now this is a Tweet I definitely would follow. This is such a great niche blog idea where a Dad instead of the popular Mom-blogs-about-saving-concept. His latest post on FrugalDad.com is something about Cyber Gifts over the Holidays. He has some great ideas too on saving on technology bills.
  3. MomWhoSave — MomsWhoSave.com is not a blog but a website chockfull of online discount coupons. I have browsed through the different deals I could use and I got coupons for Gap, Target, ToysRus, Kohl’s etc. etc. No doubt I can use this website from time to time, whenever I get enough money to splurge or simply get bit by a shopping bug every now and then or just wanting to get away and treat myself to that Cashmere sweater I’ve been eyeing on my favorite rack somewhere. Care to join me one of these days? I need a fresh set of eyes whether to choose which color: baby pink or dusty blue.
  4. AlmostFrugal–now this is an interesting title/name. I can relate to it totally. I’m a wannabee Frugal but never quite there yet. One of the site’s recent entries is about cleaning. I am a sucker for lists and her 5 Tips for a Cleaner House feeds my undordered and ordered lists (thanks to the CSS programmers that let’s lists be constructed in our blogs. I can’t traverse life without lists!)
  5. 5DollarDinners– If you happen to like the concept of saving on regular eating in, you might also like to practice it by participating in her challenge launched today. Will you join me in accepting that challenge? I am. Right after this blog post. (That’s procrastinator talking back!)
  6. SimplySaving–When I saw this name, I thought, this is a great idea. The title alone is direct, simple and up to the point. I hopped on to the blog site immediately and saw the concept of her blog fit the over-all design and feel of the theme. Or is it the other way around: the design compliments the concept? However it is, it is a cohesive site altogether. What sold me though is the free ebook of Budget101 right infront of the recent posts. There!
  7. NotMadeofMoney–If you are looking for a blog or blogs in the same circle of frugal themed posts, Made of Money blog posted favorites from her Frugal Blog Network. Click and enjoy. Reading blogs is cheaper than Pay per View.

There you go, the top 7 sites for you to get some frugal tips from. If you have a minute or a day, I am sure you’d find resources and advices that would be useful, entertaining and subscriber friendly.
